The Founder of MAEER's MIT is Prof. Dr. Vishwanath D. Karad, a visionary educationist, who was the pioneer in promoting the cause of unaided higher education in the state of Maharashtra, resulting in his establishing Maharashtra Institute of Technology (MIT), amongst the first unaided engineering colleges in Maharashtra in 1983.

Since then, the education scenario has changed rapidly, to which Prof. Dr. Vishwanath D. Karad has been a significant contributor. The great noble son of India Swami Vivekananda is his inspiration and the teachings of the great Philosopher Saints Shri Dnyaneshwar Maharaj and Jagadguru Shri Tukaram Maharaj are his foundation.

Prof. Dr. Vishwanath D. Karad has also initiated 'Value based Universal Education' in his institutes, thus enabling the academic as well as spiritual growth of the students, to help them become truly ideal global citizens with winning personalities.

Dr. Karad is also the founder of World Peace Centre (Alandi), MAEER's MIT, Pune, India, to promote the culture of peace throughout the world, and for which he has been awarded the UNESCO Chair for Human Rights, Democracy, Peace and Tolerance in 1998.
